Moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and reactivity to acute psychosocial stress in preadolescent children

چکیده
ObjectivesHigh reactivity to psychosocial stress during childhood increases the risk of future psychological and physiological disorders. The main objective this study was investigate associations between children's moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) reactions acute stress.DesignRandomized cross-over comparing two groups.MethodAfter a 7-day accelerometer-based measurement MVPA, 110 children aged 10–13 years (48 female) were categorized into low (< 30 min/d) or high MVPA group (> 60 min/d). On separate laboratory appointments, participants completed Trier Social Stress Test for Children (TSST-C) non-stressful control task in randomized order. assessed from saliva cortisol, heart rate variability self-reported anxiety.ResultsIn repeated measures analyses variance, effects condition indicated higher TSST-C compared cortisol anxiety, with more pronounced girls boys. Differences disappeared after controlling confounding variables. No interactions found. A effect generally lower group.ConclusionsThe is suitable induction laboratory, but sex-specific differences have be considered. who met WHO recommendations exhibited endocrine both tasks combined, underlining potential role regular regulation response early developmental stages. Further studies are necessary ascertain causal associations.

Moderate to vigorous physical activity and sedentary time and cardiometabolic risk factors in children and adolescents.
CONTEXT Sparse data exist on the combined associations between physical activity and sedentary time with cardiometabolic risk factors in healthy children. OBJECTIVE To examine the independent and combined associations between objectively measured time in moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activity (MVPA) and sedentary time with cardiometabolic risk factors. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTIC...
متن کاملCorrelates of Light and Moderate-to-Vigorous Objectively Measured Physical Activity in Four-Year-Old Children
BACKGROUND Correlates of physical activity (PA) are hypothesized to be context and behaviour specific, but there is limited evidence of this in young children. The aim of the current study is to investigate associations between personal, social and environmental factors and objectively measured light and moderate-to-vigorous PA (LPA and MVPA, respectively) in four-year-old children. METHODS C...
متن کاملOverweight, obesity, steps, and moderate to vigorous physical activity in children
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to establish cutoff points for the number of steps/day and minutes/day of moderate to vigorous physical activity in relation to the risk of childhood overweight and obesity and their respective associations. In addition, we aim to identify the amount of steps/day needed to achieve the recommendation of moderate to vigorous physical activity in children f...
متن کاملVariability and Stability in Daily Moderate-to-Vigorous Physical Activity among 10 Year Old Children
Day-to-day variability and stability of children's physical activity levels across days of the week are not well understood. Our aims were to examine the day-to-day variability of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), to determine factors influencing the day-to-day variability of MVPA and to estimate stability of MVPA in children. The sample comprises 686 Portuguese children (10 years ...
متن کاملPerceived parental social support and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity in children at risk of obesity.
PURPOSE Identification of factors that relate to physical activity behavior in children at higher risk for weight problems--namely, children with obese parents--is key to informing the development of effective interventions to promote physical activity and reduce obesity. The purpose of our study was to examine children's perceptions of parental social support for physical activity and the asso...
